Opening A New Business? Here Are 4 Tips To Help You Be Successful


Here we are, just starting out in a new decade. If your 2020 resolution is to launch a business, then keep reading as I have a few tips below. It seems that nowadays, more and more people want to ditch their 9-to-5 jobs and take control of their futures by starting their own businesses, are there are some really good reasons for this.

But you have to be realistic when it comes to starting a new business, as it isn't easy. Whether you want to start a small business from your spare room or are dreaming of creating the next multi-million pound company, such as successful business owner Rusty Tweed, if you're not prepared then there's a big chance that your business wont succeed.

Get A Support System
If you want more chance of success, you can't do it alone. And even though some people have managed to start up their own company all on their own, having a support system around you can just make it so much easier to do. I don't just mean financially too, and don't get me wrong, family and friends can be a good support system, but you need to need to surround yourself with people who understand what you're going through, and can help you along the way. 

And if you don't have that type of support system yet, then now is the time to build it. Start networking with other local business owners in your area, get online and join some LinkedIn or Facebook groups for entrepreneurs that are in your area as well, or just get out and about to speak to other business owners. 

Register Your Business
Most businesses register as a sole trader, limited company or partnership when setting up a business. Whilst you are there, check if you need licences or permits, for example to play music, sell food or to trade in the street, or even insurance for certain businesses. And make sure you're compliant with things such as advertising online (check out ASA or CAP for more information about this) and that you are following GDPR practices at all times. 

Use Social Media
Getting your business a social media presence is probably one of the most important things though. It makes you stand out. It means you can advertise to a whole new range of people, and gets your product seen by hundreds, if not thousands, of people.  

Start Small
I get it, we all want to have some huge company that is on the tip of everyone's tongue, but a business doesn't become a success overnight. Many new businesses fail because they try to take on too much too soon thinking it'll bring them success faster, but it won't. Starting small means you have plenty of time to get used to new ways of doing things. I mean, if you'll be online, then you might need to learn how to build a website, advertise and use SEO to help with growing your business online. 

What ever you decide to do though, make sure you plan first. Don't rush in feet first, and always check out what others in your field are doing, as you may find those all important tips that make your business a success.
