How To Refresh Your Home For The Season

With us being stuck at home in lockdown, the urge to just sit and not get much done whilst binging Netflix series is high, but it's important to keep on top of your house, as we'll soon be back to some sort of normality.

Keeping the home clean and refreshed is a great way to get yourself moving whilst being at home, give yourself a bit of exercise with the constant movement of wiping, mopping and hoovering, and even painting and moving furniture, it gives us a new lease of life and inspires us to set ourselves goals and motivates us to tackle new projects.

At one time or another, most of us have experienced the feeling of looking around our home and no longer being satisfied or inspired by its interior, more so now that we've been at home for such a long period of time. The trend you picked a few years ago no longer suits, or the colour you once loved now feels drab or outdated.

Regardless of your reasons, and whether it's just to keep your mind occupied during lockdown or if you just want a fresh start for Spring, it's a good idea to refresh your home with new and inspiring updates. However, sometimes our budgets aren't quite as big as our motivations for change. Luckily though, there are quite a few interior updates you can do to make a big difference while costing very little time or money.

Introduce a new colour
Adding just a few touches of colour can instantly lighten and brighten your space. Either buy a tub of paint and redo the main wall of your room with a new colour, or a few colourful accent pieces dotted around a room, a bright piece of art or a bold cushion will add fun splashes of colour and spring vibrancy to your home. Try to look at your room and see how a few little touches can make it come alive.

Declutter and clean
It may be a bit of a cliché to spring clean, but a there’s nothing quite like a tidy and clean home. It really gives a better scope on the room if it's been decluttered, so you can see the space you have, and you'll be able to see if things should be moved around, or thrown away. Whilst you're at it, clean your windows to let light in, touch up any chipped paint and give the areas of your home that you tend to neglect a thorough clean.

Add a scent
Fresh flowers, if you can afford them, or candles, diffusers and plug-ins if you want something that lasts longer. At this time of year, I like to go for a scent with a citrussy scent as it just seems to be perfect for the warm weather, and really brings the room to life.

Bring in some fabrics
Some rooms can look a little boring when they're plain and need life breathing in to them. Some gorgeous patterned cushions can be purchased fairly low cost, or a nice throw to go over the back of the couch. Just a few key pieces of fabric dotted around the room will really give it a new style and make it stand out, just make sure to choose ones that will coordinate with the rest of the room.

  1. We've given our kitchen a thorough clean over the last couple of weeks, and found that it doesn't need decorating yet, thankfully. However, the batroom could do with a lick of paint, which is the next job on the list...
